Question:
How did we lose a member of the BOINC S@H team? I thought with BOINC projects, all your work processed while on a team stays with that team.
On Tuesdays update we had:
Total Members: 3,341 users
Active Members: 180 users ( 338 in XML)

Now, with todays update we have:
Total Members: 3,340 users
Active Members: 179 users ( 337 in XML)

Just a glitch in the Synergy stats page or am i missing something 😕

Umm, I think you can change teams but the credit earned while on that team stays with the team. If someone moves, the total credit for the users stays with the user, but only credit aquired while on the team goes into the team total. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

I was never sure how that worked. I guess i assumed even if a person left the team their name would still show on the team stats.
But apparently some one can leave the team, their name is gone from the team stats but the team total doesn't go down.

OK, while i'm asking questions riddle me this... in last weeks BOINC stats look at the CPDN stats. How/why does Pheonix Rising have -10,803.35 for the week???

Dont have a good one for that. On my personal overall stats for BOINCstats, that would happen when one CPID would change, and all the sudden 100,000 points would switch ID's. I would show a negative or huge positive for the day. But why that would happen on an overall teams points, not really sure. My guess is it would have something to do with the stats database rather than the actual credit in the project.

And while we are at it, notice that in the incremental updates, we lost ground overall to Team USA. Although we are still out producing them... so not sure whats up there either.

Credits stay where they are earned. For example:

You crunch solo and earn 1000 credits. You have 1000 credits.

You then join Team AnandTech and crunch and additional 1000 credits. You now have 2000 credits, the team has 1000.

You leave the team :| and crunch another 1000 credits before learning the errors of your ways. You now have 3000 credits, TA has 1000 credits and team X has 1000 credits.

I know I'm a bit of a tosser (especially with a few drinks in me) but I'm AnandTech through and through. You guys are the best !!!

Welcome to the TeAm, danzigrules! 🙂

TeAm-mates, please remember: stats are just coordinated and aggregated numbers- not necessarily the truth. The further away from the real numbers (i.e. the real output from each cruncher) you get, the more probability for errors. If a stats page picks up the XML-file at just the wrong moment, it may be outdated ten seconds later (and weird numbers show up). Especially when someone changes his or her name, when a team has changes among the members (I am not talking about one member leaving but bigger changes ...) things can change rapidly. Also, if there is an error it takes some time (often 24 or 48 hours) before that is corrected.

That is why I check on the stats ever so often - especially since I do the TAS-stats - so that errors do not get propagated. If several stats-pages agree, all is well, if not I crunch the numbers from the stats-page with the latest updated XML-file ... and check against the home page of each project.

Normally in BOINC all crediting is done by the Validator. When a result has been validated, the same credit is added to:
1; Users total credit.
2; Hosts total credit.
3; Team user is currently on total credit.

If someone deletes a host, neither 1 nor 3 is changed.
If someone isn't on a team, no-one gets any team-credit for this result, and since only Validator can add credit moving from team to team doesn't change anything either.

But, CPDN does not use the validator, but instead all crediting is based on trickles. Due to many users getting a "bonus-credit" when model finished, CPDN is now re-calculating all credits routinely from trickle-info. This also means team-credit is re-calculated, so only users currently on a team will add to the teams total, just like in seti "classic".
