EIN Number and LLC

My buddy and I started an LLC. 50/50 and we're trying to obtain an EIN number.
I've read a few places and they said we wouldnt need one. We should just use our SSN, but
most banks want you to obtain an EIN number and I dont like giving ppl our SSN.

Looking on the form, do we classify ourselves as a partnership or corporation?
I'm assuming a "partnership" is an LLP and the corporation is for LLC, Inc, and corp.
