Sounds about right. Those Eidos cunts got Jeff Germtsmann fired from Gamespot because he gave Kane and Lynch a very negative review after they took out full page advertising on the website.

this game sucks

I take game reviews with a grain of salt, I always assumed sites and mags got deals like this.

It's been like that since a very, very long time, but it's certainly occurring much more often since the past decade or so. I rely on myself more than anything else for gaming interests and curiosity prior to buying, and if that ain't enough I often go on Metacritic or other comparable reviews/comments related web sites, I've long stopped taking any reviews from so called professionals seriously, they're often more laughable than informative.

Youtube videos and random personal accounts of the game are the best review.

I lost all faith in reviews when GTA IV was universally praised as a 10/10 game.

Bribing is common-place, the actual text seems to be fairly unbiased because it's just a description of the game but scores always seem inflated for top releases.

Not even Metacritic is a reliable source since the metacritic score is inflated with "dummy" reviews from bribed publications and amateur reviews.

I agree, but Metacritic is still good for a ball-park judgement. Typically if Metacritic gives a game 60 or less, you know it's pretty much well accepted that the game is going to be highly niche or terrible regardless of the slant it may receive. I use it more of a "what to avoid" guage than a "what to buy" guage.

Besides, game reviews never get updated or amended. So a review made a year ago may not hold much weight if the game today is patched and / or updated. :brokenheart: The whole system needs a overhaul.

Exact reason why user reviews on games are much better to rely on.

Not really, you never know who is writing the review, it could be a 12-year old with no criteria whatsoever, it could be a fanboy, it could be a casual gamer, someone who hasn't played many games, someone with no knowledge of the franchise or genre, etc.

Not to mention user reviews are often poorly written or hardly long enough to convey a feeling of what the game's like.

I still blame Gamespot more than Eidos for that one. Eidos may have been 'buying' a review, but GS was the only one that could make the call on his job and they did.

I prefer the one at Gamefaqs and they haven't let me down...yet. I also ask here at AT.

Played the game for awhile, Aiming sucks. Or more accurately, you can't actually Aim at one spot, you have to kind of shoot around the spot you want to hit. The Reticle kinda moves from one spot to the next leaving a space between the 2 points. As it happens, if you Aim for the Head, the Reticle appears on either side, but never on the Head. It just pissed me off after awhile.
