Just upgraded my PC from an Asus Nforce1 with AMD 1800+ board to a DFI LanPary Nforce3 board with an Athlon64 processor but can't seem to get the ethernet drivers installed. I'm getting the following error message:

There was a problem installing this hardware:

NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

An error occured during the installation of the device

The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name.

Any ideas on how where I need to start looking to fix this?

Thanks.

look in services
Control panel
Administrative ......
services

See if there is anything that looks like the ethernet service
also check event viewer in admin......
see if there are any !!!'s or XXX's

Checked the services and here is what is running with related to the network or internet:
Network Connections
Network DDE (disabled)
Network DDE DSM (disabled)
Network Provisioning Service

I don't see any errors in the event logs relating to the network drivers.

I'm half tempted to just install a fresh copy of XP. Just don't want to deal with re-installing all my programs again.

does this mean you installed a new motherboard without re-installing XP? whilst it is possible to do this, it's not recommended for a stress-free upgrade

Yep, thought I'd try to get away with it because I just did a fresh install of XP almost a month ago. Worked fine except for the ethernet driver.
