I am planning on watercooling my case and i saw the 1048 for only 10 bucks more than the 1046.. but you get twice the output 158 gal/hr vs 79 gal/hr.. i was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this pump mainly concerning noise..
I have a rio 800 (138 gph). I would recommend at least 130 - 150 for watercooling... you might need even more power depending on what radiator you decide on.
I find that the Eheim 1046 is completey silent outside of the case. However, it does have a significant vibration which can cause things to rattle in your case. Also, the case can act as an echo chamber causing the noise to be noticeable.
Go with the higher speed one. Even though your water cooling system will only take between 80 and 100gph through it.. You'll still want that extra power to push the water through faster. I have and frequently sell 370GPH water pumps. Best value for the dollar.. 40.00 submersible water pump.. 370GPH.. great pump too.. quiet and all that. PM me if you want one.
Guys, can I recommend another brand of pump altogether? It's the Mag drive series, and my Mag drive 2 runs very quiet. Here's the link. I suggest the MD 2 for around $35 or the MD 3 for $40.
