Politically correct insanity strikes again, another sad day for America. The only silver lining to this kind of stupidity is that there will be a backlash. This kind of stuff is EXACTLY why something like prop 8 won in Cali and why other similar measures won in other states -- people want to be sure that this kind of politically correct stupidity is stopped.

I don't agree with the plaintiff, and even some leading gay activists find it not really worth celebrating, but I think that the suit itself is a backlash to decades and centuries of homosexual repression and discrimination. And people who think they are going to push back against the recently formed gay rights movement by instituting discriminatory laws are fighting a futile battle. Hell, some people are still bitching about desegregation and the evaporation of Jim Crow but it sure isn't a whole lot of people, and certainly no one who wishes to be taken seriously by reasonable people today.

Depriving a minority of rights they should enjoy under a secular government is a "silver lining"?

In no way do I agree with the NJ settlement but that is ridiculous.

The analogy isn't apt. This is not like Augusta not allowing gay men to join. It's like them allowing anyone to join, but only offering the sport of golf, not tennis, for their patrons to play. eHarmony was like a golf club that said, "We do a certain thing here, golf, and if golf is your thing too, then we're the place for you."

The analogy *is* apt. Gays didn't join asking for them to offer cookies in the mail, they asked to join to use the *same service*, matchmaking.

eHarmony has no business justification, no large overhead, preventing them from allowing gays to use their service; it's a clear case of bigotry that they only offer pulldown choices of 'man seeking woman' and 'woman seeking man', that they reject any application that is a person looking for same-sex matching.
Wrong, they are not asking to use the same service (being matched with a member of the opposite sex), they are asking eHarmony to be forced to provide a new service.

Exactly. Blacks weren't asking for the same rights (to be married to someone of the same race), they are asking the SCOTUS to force states to provide a new right (allowing them to marry someone of a different race).

Once again, something doesn't have to be exactly mirrored to be the same. eHarmony and the anti-gay marriage people cannot seem to grasp the simple concept of similar enough to be equal.

AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA...

+1

They were specialized in matching couples of different sexes.

Its like telling a vegan to eat a fat hamburger. :X

Or asking Dr. Phil to also provide Computer Tech Advice.

If you like that, go to a country better suited for you.

Does that mean you're leaving?

What is funny is that all they have to do is add a Orientation field in the database, but not change anything else. Thousands of gay men and lesbians will rush to sign up, paying the high costs for the service. Then after 1 month, all those thousands will be requesting to cancel after realizing it the algo doesn't work for them. I don't see why eHarmony was so against this in the first place. :D

Except for the fact that part of the settlement requires eHarmony to give 6 months free service to the first 10,000 homosexuals who sign up.

Ya, my restaurant only serves white people, because we know how to serve them, but we aren't sure we know how to serve black people. What do they eat, anyway?

wow, i figured you to be a bit more intelligent than that....

Anyway, a better analogy would be if someone went into a diner and then sued them because they didn't have ____ on the menu. It's F'n ridiculous.

They do have _____ on the menu, they just won't serve it to gays.

No, they don't have it on the menu. Do you really think match making is the same for hetro vs homo? Sheesh.

im not convinced that their methods wouldnt be easily converted to serve either group...

that said, i dont think this should have been a lawsuit, just shoulda done some kind of campaign to bring attention to the issue

im curious to know why they are (or were) keeping it hetero only. is it because they feel that they dont know how to deal with gays or is it because they are trying to use the hetero only as a selling point
