OK here is a dumb question: How difficult is it to remove the cooler to put AS-5 on the chips? Is it possible to apply it to the GPU and the RAM? I haven't even got mine yet and I could probably just look at it and tell, but since I saw some mention here they did this already, I am just curious as to how difficult it was to do.

yay! got it to flash thanks to Joe Camel I followed his thread at the oc forums where he mentioned how he got his card flashed. heres what he said:

"ok here's what i did to get this thing to flash:

-used nvflash 5.08 to backup stock bios

-used nvflash 4.42 to flash to thugsrook's (1.5V 325/1100) "LE to GT BIOS" with "nvflash -p -u -f <file name>.rom"

-reinstall drivers"

thanks again joe!

just thought i'd remind to all of you flashers that want to keep this card a long time..

increasing voltages might decrease the card's life

Everyone! You guys are good!

Provided so much help and info ... that you make me want to buy one!
Darn, I thought I can wait till 2005 for my gfx upgrade!

flashed to LE-GT1.4.rom and all I can say is wow!

3Dmark05 Scores:
running default bios 400mhz/1100mhz = 3779
LE-GT1.4 bios 450mhz/1150mhz= 5041

3dmark03:
LE-GT1.4 bios 450mhz/1150mhz= 12277

Temps:
Core: 46 Degrees
Ambient: 32 Degrees

That is amazing.. great work..
I could probably go even higher, but Im going to stay here for now!

Thanks again.

stock 6800LE gpu voltage is 1.4v

🙂

bah how come on HALO the invisibility doesnt work like it should? It still is see through like my ti 4200

how exactly do we imitate dos with winxp? I was told to boot into safemode with command prompt only, booting to the disk does nothing....

Another success story here

5330 in 3dMark05
425/1100 using 1.5 GT bios

Tried 450, but had some artifacts.

Well, I went ahead and RMA'd my card through eVGA. I hope my card comes back with specs that everyone else is posting. Hopefully Ill get my card back by the beginning of next week. eVGA's customer service rocks, they did not have a problem honoring my warranty after explaining to them I had recieved the card bad to begin with. Hope to post here with good results by next week! Cheers!

I think you have to format the floppy into a system disk first Glyphic. That makes it 'bootable' and avoids Windows.

2 quickies guys.

- Do you (should you) uninstall your drivers and RivaTuner before you flash?
- Aonic, I saw that OCing option in RTer but it is greyed out for me and I can't seem to select it/check it

just install coolbits then vally

Zahriya: they have replacement LE's? and they took it back even tho you had a NV5?

I didnt ask them if they had replacement LE's. I am assuming theyre going to replace it with the same exact model, since the eVGA tech told me to send it in for a replacement. About the NV5, I told them the truth about it and the tech was real nice about it. He said since the card came bad and I had just recieved it less than a week ago, it wont be a problem. eVGA has a good rep when it comes to customer service. They rock

Woo Hoo! Another happy camper over here! I'm using the LE-GT at 1.4V from thugsrooks.

The boot disk linked here wouldn't boot, so I used an old dos disk i had and swapped once it was booted up. I think Vallybally is right about needing to format it as a system disk. I didn't uninstall the drivers/reinstall the drivers until after flashing since they shouldn't affect anything that's going on in dos, but rivatuner could do funny things like keeping the oldsettings when booted back up.

Vally, there are two places to get to the OC options, one on the right of "256-bit NV40....Customize" and one on the right of "ForceWare detected...Customize". The OC option is only accesable in the Forceware one.

I used the detect Optimal Frequencies once I got the OC options in the driver and now have a nice cool running 350/1240 2D and 426/1240 3D card. The detection is kinda crazy as the screen flickers and the fan ramps up and down for a couple minutes until it finishes up.
I'm ideling at 54-55 GPU, 39 ambiant(as per GPU), 35CPU 32 abiant(as per mobo). I'll do a load test and update.

update:
3DMark03 had stuttering issues at 423/1224 so I tuned it down to 400/1200 and ran it again with no problems. It's late, so I'll do more tuning tomorrow sometime. As for numbers:

3Dmark03
325/1100 (stock bios): 10018
350/1100 (LE-GT 1.4V): 10736
400/1200 (LE-GT 1.4V): 11924

load temps: 77GPU, 52 ambient (per gpu), 50CPU, 35 ambiant (per mobo)

Like I said in my first post, I talked to ZZF and they said they have "plenty" in stock.. and now this CheifValue place has them listed.. wouldn't be surprised if others start showing up. Seems like a lot of these cards are hitting the market, and like someone said before, it could because they just want to get what money they can before the big PCI-e rush now that AMD platforms will support it.

what did you tell them Zah?

Called them up, and told them that I think I recieved a bad 6800 LE. Tech walked me through some stuff just to see if he can fix the problem. After about half hour on the phone he gave up and was like, just send it back for a replacement. At that point I had told him that I had a NV 5 on it, and he said it wasnt a big deal since I just recieved the card less than a week ago. He advised me to put the original heat sink back on and then send it back. I was honest with him and I think it paid off. I never clocked the card past its stock specs, because it couldnt run them at stock. I think theyve been recieving quite a bit of these cards back, from what I can tell. Im just crossing my fingers they send me back an LE, or atleast something better 😛

the zip contains some system files that are hidden by windows so you should directly extract it to the floppy and not copy and paste

and yes.. its basically a system disk with WFFLASH, edit (to view the help.txt incase you forget the files and cmmands), and the bios files

Well ZipZoomFly seems like the place to go.. have only heard good things about them. They responded to my email quickly and gave me relevant information, seems good so far. Don't hesitate.. it will be a while before a real 6800Ultra is this cheap.
