Anyways I'm swapping my old 2.26 P4 that was overclocked to 2.4 to a 3.0 E Prescott Core with HT technology. Motherboard is PM800-M2. Some reason after swapping and putting in CPU. When booting it boots when stays and it's stuck and doesn't go further saying at Processor saying 3.0 Ghz. not loading at all. can't even get into BIOS because it's hung. it's not a bad processor it's BRAND NEW! but I swapped back my 2.26 it works but 3.0 it reads but it's stuck at the boot screen What do I have to do? I know the motherboard supports the CPU

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Support/CP...rt.aspx?DetailID=453&MenuID=48&LanID=0

Shows all supporting CPUs on that motherboard....argh I hate going online to order another one.

Specs:
2.26 Ghz (about to do 3.0 Ghz)
1 GB RAM PC2700 Samsung
ATI Radeon 9600 XT
300W power Supply from Compusa
40 GB WD
40 GB WD

That's all.... did I miss something?

The power supply could be it - Prescotts pull a LOT of power, especially if a vCore setting from your 2.26 is still there. Your 300w generic PSU is likely just not enough for it.
Also, have you tried flashing to a recent BIOS and setting everything in BIOS that is related to the processor to default?

It could also be your RAM - you have PC2700 RAM, and it is likely set to run 1:1, which would make it try and run at 200MHz instead of 166MHz. Try setting a RAM divider in there with the 2.26 in and then swapping to the 3.0E.

any good computer store carries a ram divider, usually 40 bucks or so... oyu might as well buy new ram...

lol j/k its a setting in the bios, just change it while you have teh 2.26 in there and then when you pp the 3.0E in there you'll see ifits the ram... i highly suiggest you get pc 3200 ram cause p4 are starved for bandwidth

Before I go out and buy a new PSU what voltage should it be?

try putting in a RAM divider of 133. this will put the RAM:FSB ratio at 166:133 or 5:4. this is a hair slower than the 200:166 or 6:5 ratio that you will want to do in the end, but it means that you should be able to boot fine.
if you are getting a new PSU, i would reccomend getting a Fortron 500W or 530W. Although they are not as expensive as Antec etc, they are just as good, and I used a 530W that worked well running an AXP at 2.2v/2.7GHz, a vModded 9700PRO and a TEC (really draws a lot of 12v) on mine.

got it working....it was BIOS. I thought update in Nov. was enough but I downloaded the March update and it solved the problem I'll buy a new PSU :D Antec would be the one since my friend has a one laying around which is 400W.
