Egghead files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

E-tail pioneer Egghead.com is filing for bankruptcy protection and selling its assets to giant retail chain Fry's Electronics, Egghead announced Wednesday. The company is laying off two-thirds of its staff as part of the transition and plans to sell the assets that Fry's does not acquire under the supervision of the bankruptcy court. Fry's plans to continue operating Egghead's Web site, Egghead said in a statement.

Isn't this like the 3rd thread on Egghead? The mods need to do a better job with all the OT's showing up.

Great, more people who don't speak an ounce of comprehendable English as CSRs...and we already know how great Fry's customer service is...

Uh ohh...another lock might be coming. He is a junior member so maybe we should cut him some slack...but why would anyone think that the bankruptcy of a retailer is a "hot deal"?

Well, if they start liquidating, it could definitely be a hot deal in the end. But that probably won't happen, as Fry's is picking them up.

Egghead has nothing to liquidate! Ingram Micro does ALL their order fulfillment and they are simply a web front like most of the other online superstores such as Buy.com, Computers4Sure, etc...

The Ch 11 filing is interesting since they just moved into a new building that they had built in June and hired about 300 new sales reps.

Oh well! Another one gone. Anyone want to guess who will be next ?

Just as I predicted. Buy.com should be next unless aol or another giant pumps money into them like aol just did for amazon.
