egg nog: make it from scratch or buy it premade?

We've always made ours from scratch, but I bought a bottle of Promised Land Egg Nog (those of you in Texas may have seen it in stores, not sure if it's available outside of the state) that tastes almost home made. I think I would prefer more nutmeg, but it's really good.

Here's a recipie. I don't remember how my parents make theirs though.

Beat the egg yolks and sugar together until thick. Slowly stir in the brandy, rum, peach brandy, milk and cream. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled and pour into a punch bowl. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold gently into the eggnog. Grate a little nutmeg on top and serve in 4-ounce punch glasses.
12 eggs, separated
2 cups superfine sugar
1 pint brandy
1/2 pint light rum
1/2 pint peach brandy
3 pints milk
1 pint heavy cream
Nutmeg

Note: If there is a problem with eggs in your region, do not prepare this recipe.

I believe any uncooked egg has the potential to carry nasty bacteria. I would buy premade, you know it's been zapped clean of bugs.

I think there are recipies that involve cooking the eggs so as to avoid that problem. Like I said, I don't remember how my parents make theirs. :)

I've never tried it but there's probably a reason for that - look at the freaking ingredients!
