I have a friend who needs a decent video card in his older Pentium 4 2.2 Ghz machine so he an play Neverwinter Nights II. I recommended the Geforce 6600GT since they seem to be a fast but inexpensive video card. I got mine for $140 at newegg.

He found a what he described as an EGforce7600GS on sale at Circuit City for $89 afte rebate. I thought I'd check here first since I'm a bit out of date.

7600gs is just barely faster than a 6600gt, but you can run it with passive cooling and it has 256mb ram, and most 6600gts have 128.

i think the manufacturer is actually evga...
i saw that in circuit city too. i'm interested myself, but noticed that it's the passively-cooled version so i passed.

e-GeForce = eVGA (the company)

$89 after rebate is okay for a passively cooled card, but it's not much better than a 6600GT.

Is that the AGP flavor? Or are we talking PCIe? I saw that soon they would be releasing a 7600GS for AGP users. I have a friend who has a 2yr old and likes to game as he can (apparently they keep you pretty busy) but cannot afford to completely upgrade to PCIe (apparently they are also expensive) and cannot justify the 7800GS ($300 for a dated card that he will only get to use for 10 hours a month if he's lucky). So that seemed like a great way to bridge the gap. If it's on sale w/ a rebate for $90 he will be very happy to hear that.
