Efficient DSL Bandwidth for my LAN

Hello and good pm. just wana ask for some info about how much bandwidth is effiecient for my lan set-up. currently have 30 workstations running mainly Online gaming, less on just doin internet stuffs(just for email, chat, surf and non of the video-streaming or downloading stuffs)... currently i have a 1500/256Kbps ADSL and have a chance to upgrade or downgrade(not sure of the actual upstream though, maybe its 512kbps)...

if i would allow some workstations to do video-streaming or download stuffs, what can i do to minimize its effects on the people thats doin online games? will increasing my bandwidth, lets say 2.5Mbps or 2.7Mbps help?

Btw, im using a BEFSR41v3 Router to share my internet..

Also how does CIR helps? and how to test for my actual CIR?

Thanks in advance...

I would say your router is going to live a short life with that much bandwidth running through it. They aren't made for it. I don't know how well 30 gaming computer hold out on a DSL line but I would be curious on the latency.

I am sure the dinky amount of bandwidth the router will have to route < 3Mbps wont even make it think of sweating.

it's not the bandwidth used, it's the memory/proc usage that spikes with tracking 30 active nats, with lots of packets (lots and lots of small packets don't use much B/W, but they do use lots of cpu/memory)

having said that, I have seen a 50+ user setup on that router working fine, with a scheduled reboot about once a week. I dont' know how long it will last (they burned out a WRT54GV2 in less then a year). We are moving them over to a linux box for routing sometime next month.
