I see that Pakistan will be the country that has the most to gain (or lose) from these leaks. As a Pakistani my immediate reaction is hatred for all politicians here.

If there is no public unrest, the next elections will have significantly different results. The claim that all politicians were American puppets has been found true and I think the current herd of politicians will be sheared and slaughtered.

So now people hate both Islamists (unlike what your media tells you) as well as American puppets. I think we will have someone like Imran Khan and the MQM gain a wider role in politics. I also think Musharraf will make a successful comeback. This kind of thing suits him.

Zardari is an idiot.

the politicians were sucking at an American teat for themselves and the next teat was the beloved patriot people.

If they throw out the pols taht are there, will the beloved patriot people also be willing to wean themselves.

The teat is only exposed to bribe for NATO and some little for India relations.
Kill the need for the NATO and the teat may dry up for the people.

It's alarming that you on Pakistani street think being a "puppet" of the most powerful and free and prosperous democracy in the history of mankind is a bad thing. May your country go to shit for Allah.

At best you'll replace your current bunch of puppets with a new set of puppets. Funny thing is, those awful Westerners aren't even telling you to do anything wrong. "Kill the terrorists." "Don't stone women." "Enforce the law of your own land." The bastards!

Musharraf is a great man, I hope he does make a comeback. What we did to him was unconscionable, although admittedly had Bhutto not been assassinated things might have worked out better. But no one else has been better at balancing becoming a modern, free nation with the tensions of Islam and historic enmity with India. Musharraf was doing for Pakistan what the military has historically done well for Turkey - although the Islamists are finally succeeding in that country.

Not everyone is as eager as you are to be a puppet of the US government and under their control.

Now praise the dear leader!

The cables seem to suggest otherwise. If your politicians were puppets of the United States then why was there so much resistance to many of the issues that the United States wanted to resolve?

There won't be any change if you just replace your politicians. You'll just say that they've been influenced by foreign powers again.
