Effects of adding 2nd Cardholder?

I'm looking at adding my girlfriend (of 5 years, soon to be fiancee) to my credit card and become the 2nd cardholder. Is there any effects I need to be aware of if I do this? Will this effect my credit? She has no credit history (parents bought her car, hasn't ever applied for a credit card, no loans) so will this help her at all? She's not going to use it accept for emergencies.

Thanks!

won't help her credit at all. If she charges a ton of stuff to it, I think you're liable.

Unless you are a co-signer for a new card of hers, this won't affect her credit one iota.

so she needs her own credit account

kinda what I thought, just wanted to make sure.

Anyone know of a good starter credit card?

1) If she's a student, apply for a student credit card.

2) She should apply for a credit bank where she holds her bank accounts. They have access to her banking relationship and may be easier to qualify for.

3) Apply for a credit card at your local friendly credit union.

4) Best option. Have her apply for a secured credit card she is virtually guaranteed approval with no co-signer required.

Credit Problems, and its really stupid to add a girlfriend or fiancee.

Its just a Judge Judy episode waiting to happen.
