effect of bad weather on networking

I have noticed that any time that there is bad weather (say prolonged rainy or very windy period) that I have problems with both surfing the Internet and also sending and retrieving emails.

Can someone point me to info that might confirm that the bad weather is the cause of these problems ?

Thanks.

Your cable box on the curbside probably is not sealed properly and will be submerged under water in bad weather. Call your ISP.

I had a similar problem with my DSL line. When it snowed (which is unusual here), my DSL stopped working for half a day. The next day it was at very low speed. A few days later it was back to full speed. I suspect that the snow got into a box, or got into a cable insulation somewhere between my house and the DSLAM. It doesn't happen when it rains normally. Although I do vaguely recall having similar problems when there were very very heavy rains for a short while.

My ISP should be able to measure where the problems are. But of course they first wait a few days before they hand over the problem to the team that does the physical cables. By the time they look at it, the problem is gone. I doubt it'll be solved soon.

I'm happy it doesn't snow very often here.

Providing some technical info about What Networking and Internet connection (surfing) means in your neck in the wood, would be most valuable helping us to help you.
