OK so when my HD tries to read a certain file/files it starts clicking and its like the computer locks up after about 5 minutes it starts to function again. Is there any way to check the HD like a scandisk or something? I have win XP home ed. I can't backup the hd with norton ghost cause when it gets to that file it stops and when I look at the log its a I/O error. Its a maxtor drive and the program that I can run to test it from Maxtors website runs a low level format on it, lot of help that does me since I loose all info that way. Any more Ideas?

Thanks

RMA it.

If it's not DEAD yet it will be soon...

This happened to me recently, and I have seen it numerous times in the past. I'd give it less than a week.

So prepare to exercise the warranty or start shopping ASAP.
