what are some of the must have games for the DS?

Is there a difference between games for the lite version or the regular version? Or if I buy a game, will it work for either ... I don't know which one they have and what games they have

Check http://ds.ign.com highest rated titles he doesn't own yet.

You can't go wrong with Super Scriblenauts. My 7yr old daughter wont put it down.
Of course there is Mario Cart if he doesn't have it already.
There are LEGO games too I think.
