I just bought an EPoX 8K7A (best board I've ever used btw) and an Athlon 1.33

My idle temps with the case cover OFF are 52 C. Under full load I get 57 C. With the case cover on I was getting almost 63 C under full load..

My computer room has turned into and Easy Bake Oven.

I am using this case. (300 Watt toppower AMD Approved PS), a ThermalTake Volcano II HS and one case fan.

What should I do? Is this case just crappy for airflow or do I need an new HS?

Thanks,
Nate

Damn! The TTGI site is down right now. Does that case have a mount in the rear for another fan? If it does I'd put one in.

That Volcano II is an ok HS, but you might want to look into getting something a little better like a Zalman CNPS3100 or an Alpha PAL6035.

Yes it does, but this case is already rattling because of the fans.. I would hate to make it worse. I'll look into purchasing a new heat sink, but I think this case is poorly designed. I moved my last system about 6 months ago from a cheapy case to this one and the temps went up.

Any well designed cases that aren't too expensive that you could suggest?

I've been looking at that TTGI 998 case at EBC. The $29 one.

I know it has a mount for an 80mm fan on the rear.

I can't believe that case is rattling so bad for you.

If you want to order a case online, Directron has a good selection. Any case there should be just fine. btw- they also have that TTGI 998 case. ;)

Well, I think it was a little tweaked when I got it, but I didn't feel like taking it back because EBC is HORRIBLE for that.

I have used the 998 case when I have built other systems and it seems to promote cooler temps than this 24k. Unfortunately it only comes with a 250 Watt PS. :) Maybe I'll go pick one up and swap the PS.

Thanks for the links, btw. I'll look into the heat sinks for sure.

<< How close?? >>

Well, I'm not sure exactly where in West Jordan you live, but I'm in Taylorsville around 5800 South and 1 block east of Redwood Rd.

I don't know how much you want to spend on a case. If $99 plus tax is within your price range go with the Antec SX830. It is an awesome case that is very easy to work with. It has five 80mm fan mounts in it and if you do what I did and replace all the screws holding your cards in with thumb screws you will have a 90% tooless case. What can I say, I'm lazy.:D
The only problem I had with this case are that it does not have a removable motherboard tray. You might be able to find this case cheap on the internet if you really look.

I found it for $69 here. Anyone have any feedback on this online vendor?

<< Well, according to Reseller Ratings, they don't look too good. >>

He he.. They're score of 2.6 puts EBC Computers 1.6 to shame!
