Just checked insurance costs on a couple cars:

Current Car - '95 Mercury Mystique, 2.5L 6cyl, 5spd (160HP)
Pay - $447 every 6 months

Looking at - 2001 VW GTI w/ 1.8t, 4cyl, auto engine (150HP)
Pay - $744 every 6 months (increase of about $600!!! :Q)

Looking at - 2000 Ford Contour SVT, 2.5L, 6cyl, 5spd (200HP)
Pay - $517 every 6 months (increase of about $140 a year)

Looking at - 1998 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro, 4cyl, Speed (150HP)
Pay - $450 every 6 months (Increase of $6 dollars!!!!)

WTF??? I only have to pay $6 more a year for the Audi, but the VW costs me $600??? What's up with that?

Also, the SVT is by far the most "sporty" car out of the bunch.

Probabaly on account of how many young people do you see driving around wrecking audis? Now how many do you see with riced up VWs? :)

Get the audi!! BTW I Like the "Speed" transmission in the Audi!

The SVT is not going to be as expensive because it is domestic and theoretically less costly to repair.

I think the reason the VW is so expensive is that it is also sporty, and it is a foreign make which would cost more to repair. They might also have a high rate of being stolen or poor reliability records, I don't know.

I'm actually surprised the Audi is as cheap as it is. Better safety features, perhaps?

All these prices are through Allstate...I know, it's allstate, but they came in $700 cheaper than Gieco and a couple small agencies in the area. This is with the same deductables and coverages - $500 deductable, and the second highest medical coverages we could choose.

I'm 22, graduated in May of 2000, but my ins. man is still giving me a good student discount :) Sweet! He'll give me the good student discount for another 2 years! Kick ass! By then I'll pretty much be 25 and/or married, and will have even lower rates.

Dunno, he said the VW was expensive because it was German. And that makes the Audi what???

Ouch!! Viper22. That stinks, your escort is still more expensive than what my VW would cost.

You guys up there in the NE just get hammered when it comes to insurance costs! :Q
