EEE 1005HAB: Best Response to Battery Life Decline?

So, I've got an ASUS EEE 1005 HAB.
I bought it refurbed at the Cleveland area Microcentre for $250.
It's stock except for a 1 GB -> 2 GB RAM upgrade.
My battery life has shrunk from 3-ish hours to maybe 70 minutes on a good day; this isn't gaming performance, this is Facebook/Microsoft Excel/Surfing.
I'm thinking... new battery?
However, as a new battery would also be an aging battery, would that just give me the same 'old battery' poor performance I'm currently getting?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know if it will help you, but try running the machine until the battery is almost fully discharged. Then, fully charge it up.

This is recommended treatment for lithium ion batteries, especially those from a couple of years ago, which respond well to this and is supposed to help them last longer.

No guarantees, but it can't hurt to try.

Good luck. 🙂

Over what period of time did the battery life shrink from 3 hours to 70 minutes. Was it at 3 hours when you purchased it as a refurb? Did battery life shrink when you upgraded the Ram from Igb to 2gb?

I was getting 3 hours when I got it as a refurb. I think it might have been able to do almost 4 some days right at the beginning.
I got it October 2010. Can't tell you how old it was at the time.

I don't recall a change in battery life when the RAM got swapped out, but I can't swear one didn't occur.

I only asked about the RAM in case the change was sudden. So it has decreased over about a year and a half. Time for a fresh battery methinks..

70 minute battery life for an Atom-based netbook seems pretty short. Is your display brightness turned up too high? Are the performance/battery options set correctly?

I just checked, the display settings don't seem to go dimmer when I take it to battery.
I'll investigate that direction.

i bought an agptek branded battery, basically a generic one, off ebay for $35. 9 cell and it lasts around 8 hours doing normal surfing. you might be right about oem batteries being old just from sitting on the shelf, as this is a discontinued model, but generic ones are still being made and at least ive have good luck
