[EE Times] IBM Claims 5nm Nanosheet Breakthrough

I love reading IBMs published breakthroughs. Too bad they are always 3-5 years from production when they publish them.

I would say somewhere close to 4 years for this tech to be seen in actual products . IBM unveiled the first 7 nm test chips in mid 2015.

We know that GF 7nm which is based on IBM 7nm process is slated to go into volume production towards end of 2018 for actual 7nm products to be available in H1 2019. Samsung has already stated that they will go into risk production on 4 LPP process which uses GAA in 2020 and volume production in 2021. Samsung is a partner of the IBM Research alliance and their process would derive from the above work on GAA. Globalfoundries will definitely use the above process from IBM Research alliance for their next node after 7nm. We will see 5nm GPUs from AMD built at GF in 2021.
