A federal grand jury has indicted two-time presidential candidate John Edwards in a campaign finance investigation.

The case of USA v. Johnny Reid Edwards contains six counts, including conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions and one count of false statements. The indictment was returned in the Middle District of North Carolina Friday.

While he was a dirt bag for cheating on his dieing wife it was a personal, family matter. The real and only story here is his usage of campaign funds to cover it up. If people though he was scum before hand for the cheating, the cover up isn't gonna help.

It is amazing to me what some of these guys think they can get away with, The Governator, Spitzer and so on.

I read this article and Edwards Hired his mistress to do some video production, which she did do. Therefore, I think it is hard to prove he misspent campaign funds. Good luck with this in court.

Innocent until proven guilty last time I checked. This will be hard to prove in court. It will probably be a waste of money to try to get a conviction of a felony.

Here is what is going on. When Edwards pulled out of the race for president he gave all of his votes to Hillary Clinton. This is payback from O'Bammah for daring to go against him. It is simply payback. This is all Political.

Yea he is a slime ball but this case is not even based on law but a Federal Election Commission opinion.

Its weak at best and 1 of the 2 people that gave money is dead and the other has 1 foot out the door.

As I understand it (and don't take this as gospel truth, but I'm pretty sure) the mistress started out as a legit (paid?) employee of the campaign. She then became his mistress and pregnant. The charge is that Edwards went to a couple of wealthy donor/friends and talked them into giving money to be used to support the mistress. Supposedly this hush money never went through the campaign accounts, and the individual contributions were way above the statutory limits involved.

The main issue is whether the hush money ponied up was legally "campaign contributions" or not.

Incidentally, substitute "parents" for "friends/donors" and through in a patently false diversion that the parents had a long standing practice of giving gifts to the mistress/employee and you have the case of the recently resigned (under pressure) GOP Senator Ensign. Ensign was especially scummy IMO as he had his lawyers prepare and have his parents sign false affidavits about the purported past practice of gifts from them to the mistress. Scumbag had his parents commit crimes to cover up his indiscretions.

Isn't it amazing sometimes what a pussy hound will do?

We should all know by now an affair is a bullshit reason to go after someone. Right?
