Probably cause college students have a huge amount of disposable income and they want to suck them in early

Grammar school, middle school, and high school are paid for by the taxpayers (assuming you go to a public school.) Most students that go to those schools are still being supported by their parents, so they don't truly "need" the discount the same way that a 19 or 20 year old college student who is working 2 jobs and trying to pay the rent and the tuition on time. At least that's my take on it. The discounts are there for those who need them. Also, discounts for students might give the companies some substantial tax savings.

Those of us who are out of school are expected to have jobs, and not need to pay for tuition, so we can usually manage to pay for the nondiscounted prices.

It's a bit "anticapitalistic", or I suppose socialist is the word, but it seems like a pretty fair system to me.

For the Record, I'm 25 and not a student. I don't get any discounts, but I don't mind it in the least when I see people who need them getting them.

I fully intend to make use of my student ID at the movie theater as long as I resemble the guy in the pic. Stupid overpriced tickets.

Student discounts are a good way to build brand-loyalty early on (look at Apple), and encourage those who might otherwise not spend to actually spend. These discounts work wonders in college towns who rely on students to make poor financial choices.

You could get an educational discount but what your problem is, is the fact that you're not in school.

Yes I believe this is a gramatically correct sentence...

You'd be surprised at how many companies provide student discounts, but the problem is, either they're too stupid to know they provide the discount or they're not students. ;)
