Education and Religion, do not mix?

For the majority of the cases, and a personal one, I would believe this is true. My parents raised me as catholic and had me attend church and sunday school each week. But now that I'm in college and have made great strides in my education, I have no interest in attending church or keeping up the catholic religion.

Has anyone else had an experience like this, or, agree/disagree to the title?

I disagree, but it's purely a matter of personal beliefs and taste. Your parents did what they thought was best for you. Now that you are an adult, hopefully you do the same.
If you are not religious yourself it is pointless to try and force your children to attend church out of some warped sense of "it'll do them good-they can do what they want when they grow up". If you don't believe in a religion, don't force your children to try. They'll see right through you.
If you do, then explain to your children why you believe. This will do them much more good than orders without logical reasons.

Good points Elita. I think this definately will be an issue once I decide to raise a family.

Perhaps it's more of a question about organized religion? As one achieves a higher level of education, one finds one has no more d@*m time left. Church is an easy out unless your family or other (say, hometown) reason lets you off the hook, but you are not necessarily turning your back on your religion.

And, I agree, people often change again when they start raising a family, I believe.

The title is a bit misleading or oversimplified.
This can definitely be the case for you, and maybe even for a lot of people.
But I don't think it can be universally true.

Too many hypochristians out there for me to follow it. My mom tried desparately and failed misarably. When I went to school they tried to force me to say the pledge of allegiance and I refused because they use the word God in it and I found it offensive to my non-beleiving status and hated the fact that the state forced this. I am agnostic, meaning I beleive there is something/someone out there all mighty and powerful, maybe several of them but I dont label it as God, and conform to no religion. I raise my son (6.5yrs old) to beleive what is in his heart, and if he beleives in a God then if it makes him comfortable I am happy. But I will NOT introduce him to any Organized Religion. Organized Religion = Organized Crime and hypochristianity is the worse one of them all.

You don't believe in Religions. Fine. That's your choice. But don't come in here spewing your leftover bitterness and equating Religion with something that is against the law simply because you had some bad experiences. There are hypocrites all over the world, and believe it or not some of them are agnostics! >gasp<
Just because you've had crooked experiences with Christianity it does not mean the whole faith is hypocrisy. Like every organization, it is composed of HUMAN BEINGS, who are severely flawed in the first place. Stop demanding perfection of things you don't even believe in and start demanding of yourself, at least.

The thing is, he really is right. The Catholic church is probably been the most corrupt long standing organization throughout history.

Although it doesn't matter, I am agnostic aswell. I wasn't raised christian, and I have never attended a church. But, I have taken religion classes and let me tell you all I got from them is this....Organized religion is bascically a leeching &quot;bureacracy&quot; that takes more from people than it gives through fear and indoctrination (sp?).

Catholicism isn't the only Christian religion, which goes right along with what Elita1 was saying when she said:
