Hey all, I hope there is someone out there who can help a fella out. Heres my dilema:

Right now im a college student. I'm going to studying abroad in Japan for the upcoming fall and spring semesters. While im over there I probably wont have access to a computer. As the same as all of you, I love music. So I want to get an mp3 player. I know that pretty much the 2 main ones right now are the volt and mojo. What I dont know are what are the differences. Ive read through posts and seen a lot of contradicting things. So I dont know whats right or wrong. Could someone please just give me a quick comparison? I will be using these headphones:

Also, I will be leaving around the middle of August. Does anyone know if there are going to be any better mp3 players that come out before I leave that I should just wait for? And can I use these in my car with flawless sound? Sorry for all the questions. If youve read this far I appreciate it.

If you got the money, I'd suggest getting on of those 6 GB JukeBox MP3 player with the microDrive, and load that mofo up with your songs.

I've had a MP3-CD player in my car for about 4 months. Although I got it from a noname company it's been okay. The only problem has been they skimped on the power supply regulation big time and jiggling the power cord causes it to need resetting. Just get it from a good company and you should be set.

Skipping with MP3-CD players is less of a problem than straight CD players.

oh yeah.. and if you're going to japan.. you should probably wait til you get there to get your mp3/cd player... probably get one that'll be coming out here next summer for about 350$-400$....usually brand new models sell for about 40,000 yen over there....

Ah! Awesome! Ill be going to university called Kansai Gaidai near Osaka. I want to get the language down! Im majoring in CS and minoring in Japanese because my school only offers a minor.

Oh, I want to buy it FOR Japan. So I can listen to my music while im there. And I want to know whats the best to buy here in America before I leave.

I have the philips expanium.. its awesome. I was among the first few in the US to get my hands on it. Paid 200 boners for it. Its worth every penny. Its kept in my car and I dont have to change cd's ever so often.

My only complaints are that it sometimes locks up when it encounters a bad track (this in teh beginning of the track), the only way I can fix it is by trying to change tracks and then hope it would recontinue, otherwise I unplug it and replug it back in.

The other thing is it doesnt support ID3 Tags. The new ones do support it. I suggest you looking for a site called "Fresh Gear" its part of Tech TV. They have some reviews of MP3CD players.

As for my philips.. its the best investment I did in years.

Waiting til you get there'd net you the best deal. I spent '97-98 at Gaidai. Got my Sony mini-disc there (Den Den Town- trust me, you'll find it. You'll go. You'll love it.) There's a music store in Hirakata called Tsutaya that you can rent CDs and record them into whatever little machine you buy. So don't worry so much about bringing music. You'll be able to find it there. Plus, you'll be introduced to all sorts of funky Japanese pop, so you'll be wanting to record some of that, I'm sure (Aska is one of my faves! :D )

Good luck, dude! You'll love Gaidai. Teachers are very cool. Some of 'em are just darn cuties ;) And the students.... *sigh* I miss Gaidai. You'll meet some GREAT ppl there. You'll be mixed up w/ a lot of different nationalities. You will be surrounded by beautiful women. Not to mention that Gaidai seems to be about 75% female to 25% male Japanese-wise. LOTS of pretty Japanese gals that will love to hang out with you. Be friendly, be honest & sincere, don't screw 'em over and you'll have the absolute time of your life!

PM me if you have any questions about Gaidai life. I'm excited for ya :D Wish I were going along, too. I miss it. It really is an absolutely awesome experience. But then again, it's all in your attitude and what you make of it.

LOL. Sorry. Got a little of course there, but hey- wait til you're in Hirakata. Once you get settled in and make a few friends, tell them that you want to go into Osaka to Den Den Town and find a mp3 player. You'll find something that probably hasn't even been released in the states and for much cheaper than what is in the States at the moment.

Oh, before I forget. Ya gotta check out Mosburger in Hirakata! Good burgers ;)
And never fear- there's a McD's there, too, for when you get tired of rice and rice and whatnot. Dang. So much more.... I gotta hit Reply before I keep going...
