Sure it can. 4wd= 4 wheel stop (although it might be a tree that stops you)

With all the hate laid on SUV drivers, I saw more sedans doing screwed up crap in that video.

The arrows flashing TOWARDS the accidents was a big help.

That=true

The drivers in the first accident shouldn't have stopped at the road side to exchange info or whatever. I think they worsened the problem!

LOL, sucks for that bimmer.

It looks like a huge hole ripped in the side, but it may just be black paint.
It's a hole.

Funny thing is the driver was probably trying to jump the slow traffic in the left lane, and ended up joining the fray. It's a good thing no one was killed, especially the moron Avalon driver who GOT OUT OF HIS CAR!

Braking is probably better, since you have more direct control over that. Engine braking would be like applying the brakes only to the driven wheels. If you've got a lot of experience in skids, then by all means - but those who are unaware of black ice probably haven't shifted into any gear other than "PRNDL" ;)

If you're going at the speeds shown in the video though ... you're pretty much hosed regardless. Best thing you could do is blow the horn to make sure no one's physically standing in your path. :p

1:18 - Dictionary definition of "Overcorrecting" by the Ford.
1:43 - Nice pirouette by the Lumina(?) but WTF was it doing crossing the traffic afterwards?
2:17 - Jeep comes to a stop after being unable to merge left.
2:22 - Aforementioned Jeep gets creamed by the Avalon Out Of Nowhere.
3:00 - Volvo driver gets confused by light blinking the wrong damned way - but makes a nice stop and avoids eating service vehicle bumper.
3:40 - Bimmer gets pwned. :(
