EDTV, why so cheap?

I finally started to go shop for flat screen TVs.

I found that the 42" Panasonic EDTV was in the $1500 range
while another 42" Panasonic HDTV was in the $3000 range.

Is the only difference just that EDTV needs an extra HD tuner on the side? The EDTV was very beautiful and I didn't mind it at all.

HD tuners are pretty cheap, about $100 these days. If you're happy with the EDTV quality then I don't see a problem with it? The biggest problem is that it'll only go as high as 480p, or 720i, so no matter the HD source you won't really be getting true HD quality. But it's definitely a step up from a SDTV 🙂

Yeah, that and your max resolution if you want to double it up and use it as a comp monitor will only be 640x480 (kinda implied by the 480/720 rating).

Today i bought a Sharp 20" LCD EDTV for $450 at circuit city. So far i am very happy with the picture. I put it up in the bedroom with a wall mount and hooked Dish up to it.
