And I say WTF. HDTVs are freakin expensive compared to regular TVs and they are worth it. All I want is 480p. If I want that I'll have to find the difficult to find Samsung TX-P2745P. And I won't even be able to rest after I find it since I hear Samsung TVs have bad reliability.

Damn you Sony for not making an EDTV.

480p TV's were pretty expensive, like $500. You could get a 720p TV for around that much or a little bit more, so they kind of died out.

EDTV's when they first came out made sense. Slightly higher resolution that resulted in a much cleaner picture but today with the price drops on lower end HDTV's it simply makes no sense. EDTV's occupy the same price point as lower end HDTV's so you're better off getting an HDTV.
