OK Now I don?t need any lectures about the merits/morals or ethics of file-sharing or the like. ;)

I've been using Edonkey2k for the past few weeks to download some old UK TV series and it appears to me that you would really need a separate PC to run this application as it slows everything to a virtual standstill.

Can anybody explain why it does this ? or am I special in some way?

I'm running an E-machines M6810 notebook which has more than enough horsepower for most applications.

I will be getting rid of Edonkey2k when I get the whole series downloaded but would like to know if there is anyway of running the program and being able to multi-task at a reasonable speed.
I've tried finding the series on a range of other P2P software but there does not seem to be the same availability of files.

Any user experience tips ? or is this as good as it gets?

I'll check out emule and see how it goes - it's just the availability of files on edonkey that seems to be good everything else seems to suck :(

Does emule slow your system to a halt or does it run nicely in the back ground?
(DC++ can certainly slow your internet connection but it does not seem to choke the living daylights out of the main system.)

I've actually been using edonkey as my bit torrent application too.

Perhaps that was a mistake?
