hmm....I actually liked that my tundra was slightly narrower than the others. And from the front it looks too much like its copying that ford crap design.

Also noticed they still have the turn signal in the same place.

I truely hate having it there.

The console is HUGE!! Not to ascetically pleasing inside or out, but I don't think that I'm the target customer so that probably makes sense. The numbers are impressive though, Detroit could have some more issues on their hands with this.

Nice the tow rating is still good. It's hard to find a nice truck/SUV with a tow rating that can actually pull a boat, etc. (I understand the 'why' this is behind it...still I don't get someone wanting such a big vehicle for the false safety they think it gives them...trucks usually have terrible crash ratings).

My dad ended up selling his Tundra for a 2005 F150 S-Crew then selling that off to go back to his 1996 EB Bronco with the 408 conversion he did.

Currently he is rebuilding it again for more than 350hp/450TQ at something like 2000rpms.

How many body types are there going to be and what's the payload capacity?

Interesting. Definitely not a looker by any means, but you can't argue with the functionality or configurability. 3 different bed lengths, 3 different engine choices, and three different cab functions will help steal some sales away from domestic buyers that are used to having those various choices.

It's paramount for them to have a flawless execution. Toyota has taken some black eyes lately with sub-par offereings in the new camry's, avalons, and tacomas. They have to release this thing without any hiccups in the initial quality ratings.

Price is also a big question mark. I'm curious to see where they sticker the high end V8 4x4 w/ the "middle" bed length and the double cab (not crew) compared to GM & Ford.

The downside is that an '07 Access Cab with the optional 5.7-liter iForce V-8 weighs about 560 to 575 pounds more than an '06 Double Cab with the 4.7-liter V-8. So while the new Tundra's arrival is depicted as the Second Coming in some circles, it doesn't defy its mass with revolutionary ride, handling or comfort.

Photographs make the dashboard look top-quality, and more modern than the Chevy Silverado interior with its fake woodgrain (GM offers two distinct interiors in its new trucks. In the flesh, the Tundra's satin-nickel-style driver's cockpit trim falls on the cheesy side and the switchgear feels cheap. It's less harmonious with the black piano-style center dash trim than it looks in these photos.

There's more evidence of the cost-cutting interior between the front bucket seats, where the gearshift, with its plastic-chrome wrap feels flimsy. And with its roomy, tall and upright driver's seat, this monster truck could use power-adjustable pedals, but they're not available. That's an acceptable omission only if Toyota plans to sell it only to brawny construction workers.

Meanwhile, the engine's noise competes with significant wind noise. It's not annoyingly high, but more than expected from a Toyota.

OUCH.

Look at the power:

****It all boils down to class-leading output, some 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and a whopping 401 pound-feet at 3,600 revs. And it does it all on 87 octane while meeting ULEV II emissions. For reference, Dodge's 5.7-liter Hemi produces just 345 hp, while GM's Vortec Max 6.0-liter V8 makes 367 hp. The Dodge and GM V8s both develop 375 lb-ft of torque. Nissan's 5.6-liter V8 makes only 317 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque.******

So much for the "Yeah, it has a Hemi" hype.

at what RPMs do those engines make the respective HP and TQ? low end TQ is much more important for trucks. 3600 revs isnt bad, but on VW/Audi engines, for example, 90% of peak torque is achieved at like.. 2100rpm

edit: and where's the option for a turbo diesel?;)

According to the Jan 2007 PC Magazine, Toyota is working on a Tundra that runs on E85.

I'm not crazy about the design of the new Tundra but everything else about this truck is incredible. It doesn't look bad with the double cab and short bed.

Good job Toyota!
