Our tester tore up the track with a scorching 0-60-mph run of 5.6 seconds and a quarter-mile performance of 13.9 seconds at 102 mph. The last 330i we tested, which had a six-speed manual, was nearly a second slower in each test.

Nice! Eat that BMW!!!

pretty nuts, runs the same time as the IS350 despite 5 speed auto vs 6 speed auto

the IS350 is a fat pig of a car.

So, you've never driven one I take it?

3500 pounds for a compact car is a fat pig.

The IS350 isn't what I would call a compact car. It's weight is right in line with it's competitors.

it's an entry luxury midsize sedan. not your typical civic or corolla. considering sport cars such as the Evo IX weighs 3274lb, the Sti at 3351lb, the mazdaspeed6 at 3589lb, the IS350 isn't so bad.

the new 330i = 3400lb
the Mustang V6 = 3400lb.

so the IS350 is not that far off.
still, it would be nice if it's in the lower 3000.

I'll take that as a no.

I think his argument is the lack of backseat room, which makes it classifiable to him as a compact car, which typically weighs about 2800 lbs.

whether the car is fat or not is purely a fact inquiry. it doesn't matter if i've driven it or not.

the mazda is much bigger. all 3 are weighed down by awd systems. adding the awd system to an IS250 puts it at 3651 lbs, which means it weights 216 lbs. the is 350 with awd would probably weight in at ~3750 lbs. putting in a manual would add another 20 lbs. fat.

the IS350 weighs as much as the much bigger, V8 powered mustang GT. it weighs as much as an E39 530i. the IS250 weighs 200 lbs more than the TSX (which doesn't have as cramped a back seat and a slightly larger trunk). the G35 is 5 inches wider, 6 inches longer, and weighs 78 lbs less than the IS350.

the target it obviously the bmw 3 series and the IS350 weighs 200 lbs heavier than the 330i (even more if the 3 series has a stick). gratned, the 330i gives up quite a bit of power, so we'll have to see how much weight the turbo adds.

Well, it's no smaller in the back than a Subaru WRX-STI and only slightly heavier. Still, if I were going for performance I'd go with the STI. I've actually owned one and driven the IS350. Currently own an IS250 (well, it's my wife's car).

The new G35 sedan actually looks like a real winner. I'll have to drive one. Might be the perfect replacement for my 2003 Nissan Maxima in a couple years.

On the plus side, if you can afford a $40k car, you can afford to pay extra ~$10-20 to fill the tank.

you'll have to remember it's a entry lux mid size. targets are the G35, TL, 3-series and the C class. i'd say given the power advantage, the IS350 isn't that bad. of course, you'll definitely see more body roll on the IS than on a 330, but my point was, if hardcore sports cars like the Evo9 or Sti weighs only 200lb less or so, it won't be as bad as driving a 300C (minivan territory) or something.

Poor for a car that will carry 4 comfortably and do 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.9@102mph? I'd say that's pretty damned good and that you're high on crack actually.

If you are carrying 4, you wouldn't be able to pull those time off. Regardless, its not bad mileage- it is a sport car....not an econbox- I assure you noone get a G35 or BMW for gas mileage 😉

is not the IS350 21/28?

PS, learn some manners, personal insults are uncalled for.

That was not a personal insult...or an attack, it was an accusation.

PS, I would expect you to know the difference.
