What Works:
Unique driving experience, mile-wide torque band, seamless hybrid operation, super silent.

What Needs Work:
Diminutive trunk, reflective interior surfaces cut visibility, awkwardly placed control panel, non-hybrid fuel economy.

Bottom Line:
An important step forward in the use of hybrid technology to achieve a new level of driving pleasure.

Hybrid has finally become what toyota wanted, a tool that makes people THINK they are saving the environment, while getting bad MPG....

Wow more trolling by MIKEMIKE  Where's GM in the hybrid/environment saving? Oh wait, they're still jacking off to pushrod engines and drowning in debt and the fact that no one wants their sh!tty cars. And even if it were true, Marketing >>>>>>> Reality in the business world.

this is not a prius people, this is a luxury performance sedan, the electric motor is meant to boost performance not save gas.

toyota designed this from the ground up to be performance oriented.

Prius = ultimate fuel economy machine.
GS450h = performance hybrid.

Edmunds throttled the GS450h for 500 miles and got an average of 22MPG.

The 360 HP, 4.8 liter BMW 550i is rated at 13/23. Throttle that bitch around for 500 miles and you won't be getting anywhere close to 22MPG...more like 13-14.

Thank god someone actually realized that...

"This hybrid, the first rear-wheel-drive hybrid, is all about performance and power, no doubt about that"

Hell, I've known that since they first announced the car a year ago.

GM put hybrids in buses which do city travel more than ANYTHING, and well. hybrid buses probably save more gas than the crappy lil money losing prius toyota created.
GM will be in the FULL hybrid game end of this year.
GM is in the sorta hybrid game with the Saturn Vue Green Line.

The Vue Green Line is a pitiful joke. Isn't the same basic principle as that half-assed Silverado "hybrid"?

To add a 5-10k premium for a minimal mpg increase.

Hybrids really are a waste of time for the increase they provide.

To get this kind of power from a conventional engine, you'd need a monster V8 getting perhaps 12 to 14 miles per gallon.
A 50% increase in mpg over equivelant regular engines is getting BAD mpg? OK, sure.

since Toyota decided to market it, and people thought Hybrid was the end all be all of motors, its not, hybrids are stop gaps, GM/BMW/DCX (i believe those are the three together, atleast GM/BMW are) are all on the right/better path, Toyota however forced GM into hybrids because they are just marketing the crap out of it.

once the new Diesel filters and everything for them come out, id expect someone to market a Deisel Hybrid in an SUV which would get about 35mpg and dear god would you see some pissed off ppl who dislike SUV's

I drove a 550i for a week, on loan from the dealer, and I'd take a 550i over 10 of any sort of Lexus. Amazing car.
