Edmunds Full Test: 2006 Jeep Commander Limited 4x4

NFS4

No Lifer
Jeep Commander
What Works:
Strong acceleration, quiet interior, high seat comfort, excellent driving position, luxury features galore.

What Needs Work:
Laughable fuel mileage, gets mistaken for a Hummer, third-row seat is a kids-only zone, fairly long stopping distance from 60 mph.

Bottom Line:
It can be easily dismissed as a square Grand Cherokee with a third-row seat, but the Jeep Commander Limited 4x4 is more than the sum of its parts.

Sadly, you didn't read the review. They loved it.

We're exploring options for when we have a second child, and our current Jeep Liberty is not roomy enough for car trips with two car seats, an 80-lb dog, and luggage, even when using the roof rack. The Commander is a possibility, but I want to see what happens after a couple model years (when I'll be buying anyway).
