Good handling, fantastic interior, competitive power, good price- another TL type winner for Acura?

Edmunds Review

Separate post as this is the first unbiased review I've seen. Vtec.net does tend to be overly positive (as behooves a Honda sponsored site).

Cool to see them put to good use the SH handling in the old Prelude.

It made a noticeable difference in cornering when I had the Prelude SH.

real time traffic, gps, awd, and advanced voice recognition...mid $40k, this thing is gonna sell like hot cakes.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The all-wheel-drive configuration typically runs with 70 percent of the power going to the front wheels and the remaining 30 percent directed to the rear wheels.

What a farse! You know Acura could simply reverse that with a few computer tweaks...BUT NO...they got to still to a FWD-bias car!

Until people realize that they can get RWD and V8 power in the '06 Lexus GS430 and '06 Infiniti M45. Nice try Acura, but you're STILL not a luxury car maker 😀

yeah but Infiniti and Lexus don't offer all those cool techie gizmos that Acura puts in the RL.

XM Traffic info, GPS climate control, downloadable messages, etc....awesome.

I'd use that stuff more than a V8.

Sounds like Acura is trying to turn into BMW (gizmo overkill in the new 7-Series). There's a point where gadgetry becomes to excess.

There is a BIG difference between the Japanese and the Germans when it comes to in-car electronic gizzmos: they work and work well in the Japanese cars!

blah blah blah w/the v8....and the debate goes on - time will tell. i give it one generation before everyone starts copying the major features on this car.

The RL is a nice luxury car, if you're on a budget. People drive luxury cars to make a statement, and a V-6, it's a very nice V-6, doesn't cut it. In the end, the RL is still a near-luxury car. I'm sure the RL will be a success for Acura, not hard thing to do compare to the previous RL.

GT, someone's going to figure out that AWD ecu - and hopefully flip the ratio 😛

look at hondata and what they did to the engine ecu's 😀 i'd give it some time.

Mercedes-Benz and BMW seem to have no trouble selling luxury cars with 6-cylinder engines. The E320 is still the bread and butter of MB while 80% of BMW 5-series sales are straight-six models.

V8's and luxury:

http://autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=100762

By adding V8s, Volvo hopes to challenge Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus by moving beyond its status as a "tweener" premium brand similar to Acura and Saab. This will be especially true in the United States, where Volvo sells 30 percent of its vehicles and likely will sell a majority of its V-8 engines.
"Once you get a V-8 engine, you need it in as many vehicles as possible to amortize the cost," Noble says. "If Volvo really wants to compete against the 5 series and E class, they need that V8 available."

V8 engines are essential for luxury brands because they bolster the brand's image and sweeten profit margins, Noble says.

"The V8 engines may only be 20 percent of the mix for Mercedes and BMW, but each one of those cars sold with a V8 provides $10,000 more per unit in price premium," he says.

Somehow I doubt the drive train of Acuras would be built to withstand constant RWD power running through them.

Dunno but have you seen the axle of a CRV? The thing is tiny.

What a fvcking turd of a car! That thing is such a piece of sh!t.....I mean Edmunds surely is biased too. Long live German manufactured cars with crap electronics! Or Infiniti! Or Lexus!

apart from iDrive, BMW doesn't really have gizmo's. They made their interface a gizmo. Acura put in other features that actually accomplishs certain goals (keeping car cool, providing infomation/entertainment, etc..). And hopefully they packaged it into an easy to use interface.

BMW put a hard-to-use itnerface without any real content. That was excess.
