editing vista 64 hosts file?

Anything special I need to do to edit the hosts file in vista 64?
I have admin rights and it shows admins have full control.

this is my personal home PC
 
you need to take ownership of the file, i cannot remember where i got the file from but everytime i run into problem saving something i right click it and select take ownership.

ok. i know how to do that.

odd. i took ownership of it and it still wouldn't let me edit it. i had to add myself to the permissions and give myself full control first.
 
If you search the web under "take ownership vista" or a similar search term, you should be able to find, without too much effort, a smalll executable file you can run that will add an entry to your registry, that will allow you to simply right click on any file, and choose "Take ownership" from the menu options. After that you can edit/delete any files.

If you can't locate it PM me.

As a warning and addendum to above, DO NOT take ownership of the C drive. You will royally screw up Vista big time, I made that mistake when I was trying to migrate my XP data to Vista and it wouldn't let me access some of the subfolders under documents and settings. I was also having trouble loading some programs on, so I read in another forum instructions on taking ownership of the C: drive.

Once I did that, the system and event logs were royally screwed up, and all sorts of things just stopped working right. In hindsight what I did was stupid but I just thought I should warn the O.P. about it. In XP you basically have ownership of the entire hard drive from the get-go and I didn't do my homework on Vista first to realize the differences in the file structure and ACL.
