Does anyone now if I can change the subnet mask to match that of my LAN connection?

here's my setup -

LAN connection:
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

PPP adapter RAS server (dial in) interface:
subnet mask: 255.255.255.255

any help is greatly appreciated.
TIA!

The 255.255.255.255 subnet mask signifies a host route, and is common on PPP adapters.
You dont need to change it.

meaning that the subnets should not match?

The issue I'm having is that my "PPP adapter RAS server (dial in) interface" is not able to complete it's call ... I can see that it connects but it does not finish negeoting or disconnects from the winxp system.

Any suggestions?

Your dial-up adapter should be set to get all configuration information from the provider or server you are dialing into.

Did you setup the actual dial-server yourself? If so can you post some more information about sever setup, addressing and authentication?

Okay, this is what I'm actually doing, I'm trying to get my Tivo to talk to the internet through my computer using a serial cable connected at COM1.

I went through the wizard to create the connection for the tivo, I do see it calling in, a la "guest" login but then it just sits there. I'm thinking it is not able to talk outside the internet for some reason, and I was only guessing the subnet ...

Actually, they do match.

Think of 255.255.255.0 = Chevy and 255.255.255.255 = Chevelle

The second mask is a more specific version of the first one.

Like saying that you at 135 main street and then specifying; "upstairs, 3rd door on the left."
