Editing grace period?

Other boards offer an editing grace period. For instance, if you post and notice a spelling error then get in an edit before anyone replies below your post, you will not be punished with the "Edited by: XXXXX at HH:MM" text.

There are many ways to do this. Is it possible something like this can be added to FT?

While I do like this feature on other boards, if people here are going to be that bitchy, tell them to untie their panties and shut the ... up.

On an unrelated note, I am using the Preview feature more and more, as it helps to catch major typos and formatting mistakes. If you're making a long post and spelling is critical, a few seconds to copy and paste the thing into MS Word couldn't hurt.

If nobody has read the post or replied to it, I consider it punishment. Some boards handle this in different ways.

1) Allow a X minute grace period. (Infopop)
2) Allow X reads of the post before it's flagged. (vBulletin)
3) If your post is replied to it becomes flagged. (vBulletin)

It isn't necessarily, but some conspiracy theorists make it out to be much more than it is, and make certain assumptions about the motives and intentions of anyone who has edited a post.

Im not the best speller....and Im not ashamed of it. I don't think is a feature we need to have. I probably misspelled something in the post.

Spelling was fine... I'm not going to comment on apostrophe usage or grammar, however.

I still appreciate the "grace period" of other forum software (took advantage of it to fix an image embedding SNAFU I made earlier tonight), but it probably doesn't need to be a high priority fix for here (IMHO).

SO WHAT if you editied your post and someone says anything..

It is a very useful feature to nail somebody down if they are trying to scam you, or just posting wrong info (and try to be slick and fix it )

the only time where the "Edited:" line should NOT appear is when you still have the last post in the thread! otherwise you can go back and change what you said after someone else has commented on it.

Problem is that one may start quoting the post and/or have initially read it between the time that it was originally posted and then edited.

There are plenty of ways to review a post prior to hitting the reply button to ensure that what you are typing reflecs your thoughts
. Spell/Grammar checkers are available.
. Preview
. Mental Pause (not shutdown)
. etc.

One who is afraid of admitting that they made a mistake usually is some-one that is trying to hide something.
