I'm getting a new machine. I'll be reinstalling from scratch -- even if I could copy my existing Win98 setup, I wouldn't want to, since there are all sorts of little problems that I am hoping will not be there with a clean install.
However, I do want to be able to recreate my customizations. Toward that end, if you use Regedit, you can find the values of various keys. I suspect I can export/import some of them or at least copy down what they are set to.
Can regedit be used on something other than the main registry? e.g. could I copy system.dat or whatever from my current machine, put it in a separate directory on my new machine, and then use regedit on it? That would save me the hassle of having to switch back and forth between machines, and it would be something I could keep around in case months later I realized I needed something from my old setup and couldn't figure out how to get it.
Thanks. RW
