So here's a genuine hardware question for you:

Where will my system hang if the floppy or floppy cable is bad? Will it post, or will it not even get that far? I've been screwing with it for I dunno how long, and this seems to be the only remaining possibility--the MSI LED tells me that the cpu is no good, but I know for a fact it is (having tried it in another box).

hehe maybe, but the original post had nothing to do with computers at all 🙂
 
depends on if the option halt on all errors is selected in bios in whuch case it wouldn't pass POST.
there should also be an option to halt on "no error". if that is selected then you should get thru post successfully!
