Still New to the game...
Hope this is the correct forum for posting...?
But believe this at least "Warm"
NewEgg has the Plextor PlexWriter Internal SCSI 12x10x32x (Refurb / OEM) for 108.00 delevered
Unsure as to the number available....didn't see a number listed?
I welcome comments on the appropriateness (< Is that a word :) ) of this post
But seemed like a Good deal for those looking for a SCSI Cd Burner

I've seen these going for more than that on ebay. In absolute terms, a 12x for 108.00 isn't hot, but its a Plextor SCSI and that means something to some people (including me, I have the 12x4x32).

Good find.

not bad, but a new one is only like 50-60 more... just a thought... but this is definitely the best drive out there IMO

Looks like Pricewatch shows 199.50 as the cheapest Retail version of this drive....Only differences being software?

Unlike IDE burners, SCSI burner top speeds have basically stood still over the past year
or more...There just isn't much of a market there, and no one is addressing it. That means that
the old 12x+ SCSI burners have retained their value to a much greater degree than their
IDE counterparts...

What Kwad said. It's a shame, really; I'd LOVE a 32X or 40X Plextor SCSI drive, or a cheap SCSI DVD-R.

This is a good deal for the 12/10/32.

Proud owner of four Plextor 8/20 drives (currently burning while I type this)

Good post, great drive. Plextor is a name known for excellent data integrity. In a server environment you probably don't need, or want, anything faster using a CD-WR to back up your data. In case of HD failure who would you trust?

I agree Plextor makes a great product. Just make sure you check it out good and quick since it's a refurb and the return period is short.

I admit this is a great drive, but it is REFURBISH!!! I dunno i just wouldn't touch a refurb drive. It might work fine for awhile then fall apart. Refurb CPU are good b/c either they work or they dont.

You don't want a 40X CD-R, not even a Plextor. After reading the review (I don't remember where, although it might have been cdrinfo.com) of their newest 40X IDE CD-R, and reading between the lines, it became quite obvious to me that the newest drives, cannot burn accurately at 40X. The review mentioned that the drive limited audio burning to 24X, and a few other things, including their own testing of some of the data burns done at 40X, had more readability/error problems. If you take all of those problems, and consider that the reason for 40X burning, is more of a "numbers game", played for marketing purposes, than any real time-saver (the difference between a full CD burnt at 24X, vs one at 40X, is less than a minute), then the conclusion is obvious, and the reasoning behind high-quality, but slightly slower, SCSI CD-R drives retaining their value, should be self-evident.

This is the Model#: 1210TS/BP (Burn-proof), meaning that it is the same as the PX-W1210TS-BPS that NewEgg has new for $169. When mine gave up the ghost after one year, I sent it back to Plextor and got either (I can't remember which) a refurb or mine after it was refurbed. Zillions of CDs later it is still doing fine. Conversations with a tech rep brought out that he felt that it was the best drive that Plextor had. If I recall, it may have also been made in Japan while the others were made in China...or am I thinking of a GBA my kid has?

Even with Burnproof and having the burner on a SCSI channel, if you have IDE drives as well, you may still end up with coasters every so often - for anyone downloading 20G of newsgroup cr@p every 24 hours, you are always moving stuff around to clear space or Winraring or FSRaiding or viewing mpgs. If you don't defrag a lot (or better yet, Norton Speeddisk), or you do lots of other ops while burning, you can either get verification failures or Win2K lockup (yep, even with lots of memory), and burnproof doesn't help there. Also, some standalone DVD players are persnickety about SVCD, and sometimes you just plain and simply do best by burning them at a 4X speed for best compatibility.
