your gf can afford the 24 inch, have her get you the gtx XD

lol j/k. in all seriousness the GTS would do just fine. No need to spring for the GTX now.

haha, after the 24, i wouldn't never ask her to get me that .

back OT, i would just wait till you actually have the monitor and see for yourself if you 'need' to upgrade your 7900GTO. i did the samething and waited till i got it. my X1900XT256 it actually holding up quite well, i did have to turn AA down from 4x to 2x on some games but for games like bf2, bf2142, cs:s. i didn't have to.

in my case, i'm waiting for R600 to finally be released, see how it performs, then decide whether i should upgrade or continue to hold off for R650=R600 on 65nm.

since you have the evga step-up program, if it doesn't expire till mid May, then i would wait. if not, then go for the 8800GTS.

Thanks for the replies. :)

My monitor finally got here and I can't wait to test drive it! We'll see how well (Poorly?) the 7900GTO performs at 19x12.

I can afford to wait for R600; I think it would be dumb not to. Assuming it's competitive with the 8800-series cards, it will drive the prices of said cards down, and that's good for everyone. :)

You can end up waiting a month for the price to go down, how much? $50 at most. How much is a month of entertainment worth?

Edited again to include results from patching DM M&M to v1.02. Made a nice difference.

My thoughts exactly, although it does of course depend on your budget. If it was a straight choice between waiting a month and buying Company of Heroes or just getting it in now with no new game, which would you choose?

Personally I've just bought myself EVGA's ACS3 version of the 8800GTS and it absolutely blitzes Oblivion. Running everything on absolute max on a 1920x1200 resolution and there are no problems, I only just got the card 2 days ago so I might end up dropping slightly if I find slowdowns during times of high action, but after about 5 hours of play it has been running wonderfully the whole time.
