EDIT: Where to find Microsoft Remote Control Receiver

I have a 360 coming in the mail in the next few days. I will be using it as an extender to watch my DVD collection (ripped to HDD), listen to music, and game. I have a Blu-ray player in my pc. Will it be possible to watch Blu-Rays over a network using the 360 as a media extender?

I.e. blu ray goes in pc in room, i go to living room to watch it on tv thru 360.

2nd Question: Can you point in the direction of a manual to help me set up the 360 remote for my pc?

EDIT: Where can I find the Microsoft Remote Control Receiver as a stand alone unit. Can only find it in a package with a remote control (have one already).

The simple answer is no. There may be some complex way to do it, if you try searching online.

Microsoft never allowed media to be played from the optical drive on the computer and streamed to the media extender. Why not? idk

Is that gonna work with the 360?

It is a MS media center remote, just rebranded for Dell. The 360 can use a non-360 receiver / remote?

Just search ebay for OVU4003/00. This one does come with the remote, but it's only $25.50 shipped ($24.18 after Bing cashback). I personally purchased this exact kit. I made an offer of $15, and he counter-offered with $20. $20 shipped was cheaper than any of the listings with just the receiver. I'm using my receiver with my Harmony remote, Windows XP, and MediaPortal. It works great.

Thanks for the heads up.

Maybe i'm too stupid to figure out your responses, but the remotes that you all have linkked will work with BOTH my pc and xbox 360?

Yep.

My Microsoft Media Center remotes (Both are genuine Microsoft-branded remotes bought NIB from Newegg) won't control my Xbox360, and my Xbox360 remote won't control my Media Center HTPC.
