I was planning on waiting for the Bionic, but I give up. I doubt I'll see 4g in the Omaha area, so waiting for the Bionic is not worthwhile.

Any reasons I shouldn't get this phone? I will be going up from an original Droid. Wife will be moving up from a Samsung Rogue (not a smart phone) to the original Droid.

So one guy comes in on ATOT with a base claim of it sucks without any supporting evidence, and I should take your word for it? There are over 100 people that have registered reviews on Verizon's site that state the opposite... care to tell me why?

Pentile Screen Sucks and manages to make a qHD screen look crappy
Locked Bootloader
MotoBlur makes a Tegra 2 struggle
512 mb of RAM on a Dual Core device is failure
Infinitely better device coming out in a month

Thanks for the info... now considering the Galaxy SII, but when will that be released?

Also, how much is it going to cost?

Fwiw I don't like the DX, I don't know that all the same issues will apply, but I know of several people who have had hardware crap out on them. Beyond that the pentile screen is inferior, motoblur is atrocious and I don't like the physical build of the phone.

Oh and the locked boot loader is unforgivable. I'd go with an incredible 2 over this phone in a heartbeat right now... But in your shoes I'd hold out a month for the gsii

Only issues I am seeing is that it appears the GSII is being released for Sprint or AT&T, seeing no word on Verizon.

Also, sounds as if it is $800, which would likely mean at least $400 with contract. That might be pushing what I want to spend on a phone...

No no, it is coming to Verizon probably towards the end of July, it will be called the Function I believe. Its going to end up costing $300 w/ a 2 year agreement.

Perfect!

Thanks guys. This at least shows a glimmer of hope compared to the Bionic that I was waiting for.

Halting the purchase of the Droid x2 and waiting for the Samsung Function. Thanks again!

BTW droid-life just released their review ofnthe DX2... And it's not a positive review. When the droid website gives a droid a bad review... That's not good at all.

droidx2 looks like a nice phone to me and i think they sell it off contract for only $400. if you only have 3g its the best verizon phone you could get at the moment. its not worth upgrading to if you have dx but from a d1 it would be pretty nice. i wish it had a bigger/wider screen but its not bad. my original dx gets pretty good battery life and isnt that buggy, esp. now that the gingerbread update has come out. i doubt the galaxy 2 phones willl be out on verizon anytime soon, they usually get phones months/a year after att. galaxy 2 isnt even an lte phone either

As a droid x owner, I wholeheartedly recommend avoiding any motorola devices. Motorola can't write software to save it's life; Motoblur absolutely ruins Android, IMO. My personal experience has been far from satisfying and the only redeeming factor is that I got the phone free on contract, rather than the $199 my brother paid for his.

I will say the camera quality is quite good in my experience.

Good to see you're waiting for the SGS II. That phone looks stellar.

Yeah, the brief digging I did this morning certainly leads me to believe this. Now, whether or not they release the thing on time is another story. If it ends up being delayed much past July, I am going to have to make a move on something, as the wife is not too fond of her Samsung Rogue.

It is $800 imported from overseas. This always costs more as phones always cost more for them I think. Even $800 is too much as amazon is selling it for $700. If it is released here, I don't think it will have a $800 off-contract price. It certainly won't have a $400 on contract price as that is unheard of. $300 max, but I'd say probably $250.

They've already rolled it out to some devs and countries, so I don't think we'll have a problem. It might be tough to find stock for a while but it should have no problem getting here on July 24th.

While it might not be the same model as the international model, I'm pretty sure Verizon will get a variant of the SGS2, just like it did with the SGS1.

Why? People are already getting their hands on it, what source has said that it'll be late? July 24th is still well over a month away. I see no problem with seeing it then.

Who has a verizon sgs2? The only people I heard of getting it were some devs, doesn't mean they have a verizon one.

I'm still going by that case that listed sprint, att, and verizon on there for the sgs2.

my buddy works at samsung's verizon office and he said verizon would be getting a slightly different/better phone, and that the sgs2 release on other carriers would be closer to the holiday season. also that the leaked names were incorrect.

he could have been totally messing with me though, who knows.

i already said this above.

dont expect bionic until after verizon eliminates unlimited data. they want to get rid of that before they release a phone that has laptop like web access

I was responding to the first statement. There are people with the GS2, not Verizon. I was just saying that if some countries are getting theirs on time I doubt we'll see a delay. Beating the iPhone 5 release would be a good plan IMO.

Yeah, US carriers will get the SGS2 soon, but it'll be Sprint and AT&T. I wouldn't hold my breath on Verizon, particularly with the LTE thing. Remember they've already specifically denied the July release rumor (unlike Sprint).
