I like straight up good deals. This is the recertified one.

Just a note: I bought a Sony Multiscan 520GS (refurbished) for $515 2 years ago and it still looks brand new and working like a champ. Did i mention it's picture quality ;)

2.8/7 on resellerratings, meaning they'll probably send you a dead monitor and won't take it back.

I bought a refurbished 19" Sony a couple years ago. After a year it wouldn't power on all of the sudden. Might just be the switch. I tried taking it apart to check, but there were cages inside of cages in there and I would have had to disassemble the whole thing to get at the power switch.

It's been sitting in my closet for a year though.

Great deals if they work out. I don't have the money to test it out though. Anyone going to?

Did they say why they're only offering a 30 warranty? Doesn't most monitors
have anywhere from a 1 to 3 year warranty? Does SG have at least a 1 year
warranty for this thing? Great price, but the 30 days concerns me a bit.

follow the ebay link on excess solution's website and the rating from all 35 are positive. However, the last date is nov 2000. It seems that they do not post anything new on ebay for a while...

Also, i think the 46 in stock may not be a real time number. So get it quick if you think it is a hot deal.

Has anyone bught this monitor from this place? (not the silicon graphics monitor) The first one looks a lot better, has a higher resolution. I like that monitor, if anyone bought one and got it I'd like to know. Especially its condition and the quality of visuals. Looks very tempting to me, but the reseller ratings do look scary. Any info would be apreciated.

Please post your reaction if you visit the store!

I just received the following reply to email...

<I am interested in ordering the item you have listed below. However, I am curious as to why it only has a 30-day warranty? Is this excess-solutions store warranty? Does it also have a 1 to 3 year manufacturers warranty?

Thanks!>

Because we are surplus dealers and normally do not have any warranty other than against DOA for replacemtent.
These are $800.00 monitors you are getting for $300.00.

Thank You
Ron Harter
Excess Solutions

-So my take is that the manufacturer's warranty is not applicable...

>>>This is the recertified one.<<<

Please edit the title of the thread to reflect that this is a used monitor.

The SGI one is not FD... I guess....

The FD one is actually pretty hot......really wanna get one. But I had really terrible experience dealing with S0ny....and S0ny monitors...so.... but anyway, they make really good monitors....especially the FD ones.

I guess Justdeals isn't that bad....as I got the Logi Wireless KM combo from them, no problem.

Shipping is only $11.95, which is amazingly cool for a 21" monitor. Shipping on the SGI is about $40, which makes it more expensive. The SGI is also not perfectly flat, although it is a great screen.

BTW, Jusdeals isn't all that bad actually. I've dealt with them several times about two years ago and the experience was good. Even returns were fine. I can't say anything for now though.

Am I missing something, or does it say $589 on the Justdeals site? Maybe I need some caffeine or something.

The discussion is about the "used" one. $599 is for brand new monitor.

just to let you guys know it takes a lot to kill these monitors. I used to buy and sell these as off lease equipment. I was buying them wholesale for 150 a pop in lots of 10. Shipping on these is awesome, UPS (who damaged them regularly) I remember 50$ shipping charges. This is a good deal, if you're worried, buy with amex or another CC so that you can refuse payment if its DOA or busted. Trust me, its eighther going to break on day 1 or not for a long time after, just remember to listen to it when you plug it in, if its humming something awful, then its bad.

flavio,
Call sony and be nice. They told me that they have 3 year warranty on refurbs as well. So I sent mine in for repair. They did not fix the problem but scratched my monitor so I callled back complained about it and they sent me a new model refurb but then there was still a problem so I called again and they actually sent a brand new one overnight to me.

Ok,
Im gonna put my a$s on the line here, just bought one and I hope its good. If I get fuked I'll let you guys know.

Now 16 in stock, anandtech effect?

btw - 12 bucks to ship something that weighs like 50 lbs is goddamned cheap. Just check out what ubid is charging for a 19" Sony E400, like 76 lbs at 6.99+0.99 per lbs.

Although I'm dying for a G520, at $300 I'll just have to make do. Good luck to all those who bought.

I would recommend against these monitors. We have about 40-50 workstations that use rebadged Sony monitors and we have been going through 1-2 per month. There's a reason they are so cheap.
Just my $.02

well, mine was refurbished when i won it on egghead.com's auctions 2, 3 years ago....anyhow, it had problems powering up, so i called sony and they honored a 1 year warranty but i didnt need it because i wrote Egghead and they sent me a replacement free of shipping charges. Point is that Sony warrantied my refurbished monitor. Hope that helps. Also as stated by someone above, they'll either break the frist few usages or last forever.

BTW, best of luck to those who make the purchase.

I recently talked to a Sony rep about my laptop, ( I know different case ;)) but was told that they only honor warrenty from Ubid if you purchase the product refurbished and not any other online stores. Then again that was for laptop
