Hi,

Originally blamed Acronis, but after thinking of Idontcares input.. retraced my steps and think it might have been my uninstalling a free trial of Kapersky Anti Virus software 7.+ version.

Uninstalled Kapersky.. now can't boot into Windows.. stalls, hangs forever when loading preferences after inputing password. Any ideas on how to fix and get into Windows again?

I was thinking of removing os hard drive and seeing if I could not fix in other system, but.. no luck in my first attempt..

Specs:

Windows Xp Pro Sp1
Asus A8R32-MVP
2 GB Mushkin DDR 500 232X2 speed
Opteron 185 232X11 slightly underclocked

HELP!!

Mike

I use acronis 9 and am not aware of this issue being something it could cause.

The issue to be solved, it would appear, is not determining what caused your problems but rather how do you get your project done within the time you have left. Good luck.

Edit: After more research I am clueless on this.. thought it was from Acronis, but maybe it is from uninstalling Kapersky free trial anti virus.. regardless.. any help would be greatly

My goal is to find a way to get in and use my pc again.. get into windows.. I do have key programs that are only licensed to run on this pc.. so.. if I did a fresh install on another hard drive of windows... could this be a viable way to get in and still run programs?

Have you tried a system restore to before this problem occoured? Assuming that you can boot to safe mode. :frown: also you could try sfc /scannow this may require the XP install disc I think this can be run from the recovery console if you can't boot in safe mode.

Thanks!

Unable to get past logon screen where i enter my password.. holding down shift key has not impact... "loading your personal settings and... nada.

With hitting F8.. can get to various safe mode options.. but still can't get past logon screen even as Administrator from safemode and command prompt option.

Somehow the HDD I had imaged Acronis to was used for another pc and image deleted.. argh..

Is fresh install of xp to another hard drive an option.. if so how do I get all the data to load to my various programs?

Mike
