I'm really enjoying this mini-series. The special effects look nice -- reminds me of Space: Above and Beyond....

I don't know how tomorrow night is going to be, but tonight was excellent. Much better than the old version. The effects were good, but as with any good science fiction secondary to the storyline, which is very strong. This version actually stands shoulder to should with the book.

Best sci-fi on TV since the introduction of "Farscape" IMHO.

Good sci-fi is a rarity these days with so much emphasis on special effects and not much good old fashioned story telling.

They could have released this thing as a movie, it's that good.

If you didn't watch it and you're even mildly into sci-fi give it a try.

I don't harbor any illusions that my enjoyment of the old series isn't colored by nostalgia, but even if I completely disregard the existence of the old series, tonight's entry was pretty painful to watch.

Poor acting.

Poor effects.

I probably won't watch the second episode.

I'm surprised but I liked it as well. Good sci-fi and an excellent remake of the original pilot episode thus far, despite some of the more radical changes in casting and storyline.
I was a big fan of the original series as a kid, too... watched every show when initially aired. And unlike some other sci-fi producers *cough* Lucas *cough*, Larson didn't sh!t on one of my childhood memories.

I thought it was very enjoyable, and I really enjoyed the way most of the space action was filmed, having the camera move quickly along with the ship, and way the fighters didn't move in opposite directions in the blink of an eye was refreshing. (edit: the NYPD-esque jittery camera work bothered me on some of the more dramatic bridge-shots) The physics seemed more realisitc, though I need some more input. I have no ties to the old series, but what I have seen of it made me want to wretch. The original series seems optimistic to the point of idiocy. The new series seems to be more bleak, not just more realistic (if a sci-fi show can be that), but I think there is definitly more potential for drama and conflict where there is sorrow and the bitter fight for hope, not some "we can do it!" WWII Rosie the Riviter B.S.
For those that still want to snuggle up with their old series with their blankie....go for it, but the new series is far superior (thus far) so stop kidding yourself.

I only hope the show is able to continue past the 'armageddon' episode.

My take is that it wasn't that bad.. but it wasn't great either. The opening sequence was more than just a bit cheesy, and the Baltar character is not believable at all. Too many commercials. I liked the Cylon fighters, though.. The red lights on those was a nifty effect.

Hhahaaa my friend just IM'd me ranting about how they took a dump on the original series.

Given that the sfx look mediocre and they CHANGED THE CYLONS INTO WOMEN, I think I won't be watching it, sorry.

Just remind yourself of Galactica 1980, watch this new show, and you'll feel much better about it. ;)
