I just bought a kt7a, and built a new duron 750 system. I had trouble getting the chrome orb on, but it fit nicely once I figured it out. Now when I try to boot up, it gives me that message... did I crush it or what? I haven't tried the pencil trick or anything on it..

if you crushed your core, you wouldn't get ANY message

Your message is what occurs when you first installa CPU on a mobo. It's just the motherboards' way of telling you to go into BIOS and set it up.

Thanks, I just figured it out incidentally, it feels much better to not be thinking I have a crushed core 🙂 now I've just got to figure out why it won't let me boot from the floppy to install win2k.

Is the floppy connected properly? Also, is it the first thing listed in your BIOS under "boot order"?

Elsmoko, are you sure that ORB is on correctly ?? ORBS have problems with the capacitors on the ABIT mobo. You can get them on reversed 180 but that not right.

Your floppy issue is likely to be related to the cables that shipped with your mobo. TEAC and SONY floppies, have problems with the cable orientation. The red stripe should be on the left, looking at the pins. The small plastic lug on the cable may need to be removed with a sharp knife, to flip the connector over. This is a common problem with the ABIT supplied cables.

yep I've got it going great now, thanks for asking... although my temperature readings seem very very low (re: 24 degrees at idle... although I'm not overclocking)
