i only ask b/c i've contacted some vendors that supposedly sell samsung original, but tell me that the chips are placed on a third party manufacturer's PCB when i ask. i was under the impression that the only true difference between the two was the quality of PCB, and that samsung original used samsung chips as well as samsung PCB. but maybe i've been under the wrong impressions for wuite some time then. they both use chips made by samsung, but i don't know if they both use the same high quality samsung TCB3 chips. alot of vendors don't specify that information, and i've only come across one vendor so far that has "TCB3" in the product code. on top of that, none of the product codes are the same at any two stores. i guess that's just a store thing. at any rate, i'm just looking for a 512MB module w/ samsung TCB3 chips on high quality PCB, if not made by samsung itself. everyone tells me to get samsung original over regular samsung. i just wanted to make sure i was clear on what samsung original memory really is. thanks, eric...

Samsung Original = Samsung PCB (has SAMSUNG etched on the leading edge of the PCB), not a 3rd party PCB

ok, now that i'm clear on what Samsung Original really is, i need help finding some. i've run a search on pricewatch for "samsung original PC2700 512MB." only one page of results shows up, and of those results, only a handful are actually "original" samsung. of those, i have yet to call one and hear that they sell samsung chips on actual samsung PCB. its as if they are all guilty of false advertising. so i turn to the people of the forums to help me find what i need. either the URL of a vendor who you know for a fact sells samsung original memory (samsung chips on samsung PCB), or a direct link to the exact product would be greatly appreciated. thanks, eric...

cool thanks guys...we're talking about the TBC3 chips, right?

EDIT: they're out of stock, and who knows how long i'll be waiting if i order there. if this is the only place that people know of as the real deal, then i have no choice but to wait. does anyone know of another place that sells true samsung original?

Any reason you wouldn't want to buy some Corsair XMS RAM? It's the best you can get and it's guaranteed to run at it's rated speed.

Russ's company Compucheap.com sells them I think. If not I am sure he can get them for you. 🙂

RalfHutter, take a look at this review at OCprices.com. this is why i want samsung TCB3 chips on the best PCB possible (i dont specify samsung PCB b/c it doesnt really say if the memory he uses in his review is samsung original). not that i'm a hardcore OCer, but system memory certainly inst a component you want to take a chance with, and i want the best stability and reliability i can get. as you can see, the first version of the XMS2700 hardly OCed, and thats b/c it didnt use samsung chips. near the end of the review you'll notice an addition to the article reviewing a revision of the XMS2700, this time using samsung TCB0 chips. this memory fared much better than the first, but it still didnt perform as well as samsung's TCB3 chips on the samsung PC2700. now i don't deny that corsair makes great memory, but as far as PC2700 goes, there is better on the market.

as Viper96720 said, the Corsair XMS uses the samsung 166mhz chips on it, but this wasnt the case in the beginning. like i mentioned above, corsair made a revision to their XMS2700 to use samsung chips, and this is what Viper96720 must be referring to. still, the revised XMS2700 only uses samsung TCB0 chips, which dont perform as well as samsung TCB3 chips, which can be found on samsung original PC2700.

if i were getting PC3200, i would go with the corsair XMS3200 b/c its performance relative to other PC3200 brands out there is much better than the XMS2700 relative performance.

Adul, unfortunately Russ's stie specifically says that it is on 3rd party PCB...see for yourself. but thanks anyway...

I think they must have got a bad stick of Corsair XMS. That's the only memory review where I've seen Corsair XMS not come out on top.
