It sure will not be a clean kill in old games like Quake3, but modern games tend to use shaders heavily, so I expect a big performance jump over the r520. Not sure how it will do against the g71 - that depends on wheter or not the Inq in right about it having 32 pipes.

I think there will be availability on the day of, or within a few days of launch. Not millions of them, but they will be out there. Then show up in more force within a few weeks, to a month. Just a guess, and I have no facts to back this up, other than that is what seems to happen in the last few launches.

The only thing that concerns me is is the size of the thing which will probably require more cooling than the X1800 XT.

With the G71 being a die shrink(110nm --> 90nm) it's possible that it has 32 pipes depends on the yields tho as well...and BFG10K brought up a good point...are the coolers on these bad boys gonna sound like a hoover vacuum? or are they quiet? single slot or dual slot? if the high end G71 is 32 pipes then is the model underneath it 28 pipes??

We'll find out soon enough I suppose

Nah. BFG10K has no point about sound, the 512 GTX and Quadro have proved you can cool a fast card on air without raising the decibels. You just need more surface area for the heatsink, a more efficient way to get heat into the heatsink, and a larger fan to move comparable air volume at lower RPMs.

I don't even know that he was trying to make a point about sound as he only referenced size.

Yep, nVidia has already been declared the winner in the next round by the ever reliable Inquirer. It's a proven fact and meticulously tested Vapormark (tm) benchmarks shown below with non existent cards confirm the results.

R580 ----------------------------> 11,036 Vapormarks
G71 ----------------------------------------> 15,389 Vapormarks

As you can see, the G71 scores over 4,000 Vapormarks higher than the R580! Guess we'll all be getting nVidia's next video card since it's already been declared the winner. I forgot to mention that having the best video card will increase the size of your epenis and also have a +5 charisma modifier so you can score with those virtual women in the online games.

I was just trying to expand upon the point he made, I realize you can make a large cooler quiet but sometimes those wonderful people at ATI and Nvidia lose their heads or something and slap on noisy a$$ coolers on vid cards, obviously we'll hope thats not the case with either of these new cards

While some games track 3DMark closely, others do not, so ATI will probably be more than that little bit ahead on a number of games, but this new card is probably not the clean kill ATI would want it to be. The top end G71 should have little trouble eclipsing it in most things.

On the up side, the ATI distribution woes of 2005 look to be coming to a close, sources tell us that the tea leaves are reading good availability on launch. I really hope ATI gets it right this time, we need a good old fashioned fight once again. µ

lol... wasted your time anyways ! i think we can give a little credit to the inquirer. They maybe right :Q. they do have a 1 in 2 chance of getting the new right.

Well you read it and now post up your hatred towards me or the theinquirer or both of us
;)
and the puropse of this thread was?
:confused:

don't we have enough threads about the x1900xt without inviting flames.

im not really interested in getting x1900xtx cause that would be like 7800gtx 512, extremely expensive and not value for money. Wasnt inquirer who said xtx will cost $700 but then thats not final but i wouldnt be surpised.

I do hope the x1900xl will be as fast as x1800xt, if it is and under $400 then that will be my next card.

Apparently, it will use the same PCB and cooler as the X1800XT

I used to surf these forums until it got filled with people like rollo who just post such one sided comments as to make it a waste of time /flame on.. okay, okay.. anyway yeah

Why so much hyping and speculation? Who cares.. wait until it's out and we can compare stuff on level ground.

What I don't like about this is that the X1900XTX has to use the slower master card for crossfire to work. Why isn't ATi producing an X1900XTX master card? More Crossfire mess from ATi..sigh.

im sure i heard some where that the CF master card will have the same specs as the top tier card the x1900xtx

except it will be called x1900xt crossfire.

Says 625/725 for the master card in the ATi document posted at beyond3d.
