Man did I have fun with these! For those under 30, they were plastic cars with a huge heavy flywheel in the center with a toothed gear. You would insert a plastic T-handle with teeth on it into the center (meshed with the flywheel teeth) and then gave a quick pull to "rev-er-up".

Once it was spinning at high RPM, put it at the ground (preferably aimed at your brother, the dog, or any breakable object ;) )

I found a GREAT website devoted to these forgotten toys --> HERE

So........how many of you are willing to "date yourselves" and admit you are over 30 like me and long for those cool, sometimes dangerous, and even BANNED toys from the 70's and 80's???!!!

I remember those...didn't have them, though :(

A friend had the Smash-Up Derby cars.."crash, bang, smash 'em up....Smash Up Derby is fun" :) they were pretty similar in operation.

My fave banned toy is the Mattel Vertibird....seems they still make these overseas (called BlueBird) I bought one on Ebay, it's great fun.

I owned the SSP smashup derby set with the two 57 chevy nomads, and I owned a dragster as well as the SSP evil kinevil. I couldnt get enough of them as a kid....and hell I'll admit it....I wish I had them today too.:p

I remember how powerfully I was influenced by the commercials.
I thought I had to have one, and I did get one for Christmas.
It was hard to get them to hit the ramp from very far away.
